Science communication

Since its founding in 2019, communication has been central to the NanoMag project. We are committed to sharing our research with both the scientific community and the general public, ensuring accessibility without compromising scientific rigor. Our outreach strategy is multifaceted, ranging from maintaining an updated, user-friendly website to offering specialized internships in science communication. These initiatives have been spearheaded by Pedro del Real, with enthusiastic support from Andrii Chumak and scientists within the research group.

We keep our news site updated with the latest internal events, press releases, prizes, and other activities from the group.

In our YouTube channel, we share different video formats. With our lecture series, we want to make our field available to students worldwide. Our research updates present our results and investigations to an expert audience. Lastly, through shorts and other generalist formats, we try to show our work to the public.

Our interactive webcomic “Catching magnons!” shows the every-day life of our research group. Funded by the FWF, this interactive format offers an innovative and motivating approach to science. Thanks to an additional layer to the story, which integrates interactive media aspects such as mini-games or animations, we encourage an active participation of the reader.

A crucial part of our commitment to open science is making our material searchable and findable. In our repository page, interested scientists and the public can find software made by the group and available with creative commons license.

Through the FFG summer internships, we invite high-school students to work with us for a month. During their time in the group, they learn about our research and how one to communicate it.

We participate in the Wiener Töchtertag, in which high-school girls are invited to meet our scientists, visit our labs and participate in a comic-making workshop, in which they learn how to explain science through this immersive setting.
