Members and collaborators of the group met in Semmering for two days of scientific discussions

The NanoMag Retreat 2020 took place in beautiful Semmering. The members of the group and some guests joined for two days of scientific exchange between mountains.

The NanoMag Retreat 2020 has allowed the members of the group and collaborators to share their expertise and knowledge, strengthen the ties between the diverse scientists and plan new exciting research.

The retreat consisted in two days full of talks, ranging from quantum optics to ferromagnetics. There was also time to discuss organizational issues important for our constantly growing research group.

Prof. Chumak presented both the future plans for the group as well as some interesting scientific results. Next it was the turn of the Head of the SuperSpin Lab, PD Dr. Dobrovolskiy, who presented the plans for the labs, which will start being built on summer. The talks by both members and collaborators of the group made visible the wide range of expertise and scientific know-how available in the AG Nanomagnetism and Magnonics.

During the retreat we could also welcome our newest member, the Senior Postdoctoral Researcher Sebastian Knauer, who has joined us after working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Centre for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology in Australia. Moreover, we could share this retreat with collaborators from the TU Kaiserlautern, among them Michael Schneider, one of Prof. Chumak’s PhD students.

Dr. Sebastian Knauer caught in the middle of an explanation to Prof. Andrii Chumak and Priv.-Doz. Dr. habil. Oleksandr Dobrovolskiy during the coffee break.
