Qi Wang’s tenure as a postdoc researcher at our group always had an expiration date. His excellent track record indicated that, sooner or later, he would take the next natural step for a researcher of his caliber: establish a research group.
With this in mind, we also congratulate the Huazhong University of Science and Technology for their excellent choice. Qi is not only a creative scientist with a gift for producing innovative ideas, but also a kind and friendly colleague.
Qi joined the NanoMag as a postdoctoral researcher together with our group's founder, Andrii Chumak. Andrii was his supervisor during his PhD studies at the TU Kaiserslautern. “Qi generates ideas non-stop and can solve any scientific problem within a few days.” –explains Andrii– “science is his true passion”. Qi's track record as a PhD student include the “Preis des Freundeskreis” established at the TU Kaiserslautern and the “Chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students abroad” from the China Scholarship Council.
After arriving to Vienna in 2020 accompanied by his wife and son, Qi's passion for research has had the most positive impact in our group. He used his expertise in the building of our Brillouin Light-scattering Spectrometry (BLS) lab, he has assisted younger colleagues when they needed him in numeric or experimental investigations, or even, offered himself to be a comic character for a science communication project. All of this without stopping his scientific publishing and participation in international conferences. In addition, he vacates a critical position in our group: he has been responsible for the coffee for almost two years now.
We all wish Prof. Dr. Wang much success on his outstanding scientific path, many groundbreaking results and ideas. And, Qi, please never forget that you have many friends all over the globe.
