A Mountain Refuge for Nanomagnetism

04.03.2024

This year’s NanoMag Retreat took place again in the scenic Sporthotel Semmering. Besides a packed scientific program, in which members of the group and our special guests from CEITEC presented their research and results, there were many opportunities to strengthen the ties among members of the group

Semmering is a picturesque mountain pass and village located in the Eastern Alps of Austria, renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our research group disembarked again at the Sporthotel Semmering, for the fourth year now, to discuss science, talk about the group’s organization and team-building.

This year was marked by the participation of Michal Urbánek and two members of his research group at the Czech CEITEC, Brno. It was a great pleasure to be able to discuss with some of our closest collaborators, whose facilities and know-how have permitted many advances in our field.

We are also happy to report that many of the talks from our researchers, from master’s students to postdocs, delved into the experimental results they had produced. These presentations in front of the whole group have helped to develop and go deeper into the many ideas and projects at the NanoMag.

We have learned that the future is full of unknowns, but after the positive feedback from this year’s meeting, the NanoMag Retreat in Semmering seems very likely to happen again in 2025.
