Congratulations to Michael Schneider for his PhD!

Michael successfully defended his PhD thesis “Bose–Einstein condensation of magnons by rapid cooling and its interplay with spin orbit torque” at the TU Kaiserslautern.

After his hard work as a pre-doctoral researcher, with publications in prestigious journals such as Nature Nanotechnology, Phys. Rev. Lett., or Phys. Rev. B, Michael has been awarded an “outstanding” for his PhD thesis at the TU Kaiserslautern.

In his thesis Michael presents a fundamentally new mechanism of BEC formation of quasiparticles by rapid cooling, which he studies using magnons as a model system. Taking advantage of the experimental freedoms offered by this new method, he explores the control and manipulation of the magnon BEC.

Prof. Chumak, who supervised his thesis, commented that, during Michael’s time as a pre-doctoral scientist, the young researcher was always placed on the most complicated tasks and was able to solve them. Since then, his supervisor considers him “a person to solve unsolvable problems.
